Tell us a bit about your content and applications and the technologies you are using? We have a few types of services: personalization services like screensavers, wallpapers and animated ringers, community services like social camera applications and animated greetings, and broadcast services like comics and videos. How did you get started? We got our start doing animated messaging services in Japan and Europe. We've built up core expertise in fun, visual applications and we've built a good reputation with the carriers who now trust that we can deliver what we say. What advice do you have for developers for submitting content and apps to the carriers? Make sure your value proposition is very clear. You need to know there will be a real demand for the services. Understanding the carrier's strategic objectives is important and framing up your applications and services within that context raises your chances of success. What helps your content and applications sell through the carriers? We make sure that we are very clear in packaging our services and value proposition. We work to help the carriers understand why what we offer is valuable. And our services have a good financial track record -- which always helps. What types of wallpapers sell best? It varies by region and network. Wallpaper is all about personalization and self-expression, which varies from person to person. We've found that our personalized wallpaper service has been very popular. What describes the perfect user experience for a comic strip experience? Fast, easy and funny. Has Openwave helped you for content distribution and to create the best mobile entertainment experience? Working with Openwave has opened doors and given us credibility. There's a lot of existing Openwave technologies out there -- that we build on -- that makes the decision point easier for carriers. For example, we are just finishing a deployment with a major North American carrier that uses a lot of Openwave equipment. We built our services on top of ODM, and having a standardized set of billing and handset APIs made the deployment faster and easier. We're all for open standards and well-defined APIs that work, and that's where Openwave adds a lot of value to the marketplace and developers like FunMail. What's next for you? We've moving into two key areas: social applications and video applications. Enabling people to communicate in fun, visual ways has huge potential if properly executed. And we think video is a major new media type. We work hard at making our services fun, easy, visual and profitable, which we call doing it the "The FunMail Way". |
