Integrating Openwave Simulators with Adobe GoLive 7

If you are creating web content using XHTML or WML and are targeting mobile devices, you can test your content with the Openwave mobile browser simulators without leaving Adobe GoLive.

You do this by installing an Openwave Extend Script for GoLive which enables integration of the Openwave SDK 6.2.2 with the GoLive application.  This add-on was created using Adobe's GoLive Extend Script SDK.

Openwave SDK 6.2.2 contains Openwave mobile browser 6.2.2, which adheres to the WAP 2.0 standard and renders content in WML, XHTML Mobile Profile and CSS. For details on browser capabilities and device deployments, see Supported Phones.

Requirements

  • Adobe GoLive 7
  • Openwave GoLive Extend Script, consisting of the files extend_script.html (right click here to download) and opwvsdkgolive.dll. (right click here to download)
  • Openwave SDK 6.2.2

Installing the Openwave GoLive Extend Script

  1. If GoLive is running, close it.

  2. Copy the file opwvsdkgolive.dll to the directory:

    [GoLiveHome]\Modules\Extend Scripts\Common

  3. Create a folder called Openwave SDK under the directory:

    [GoLiveHome]\Modules\Extend Scripts

The resulting folder will thus be:

    [GoLiveHome]\Modules\Extend Scripts\Openwave SDK

  4. Copy the file Main.html into the folder you just created.  Make sure your operating system has not changed the name of the file, to main.htm, for example.

Configuring GoLive and the Openwave Extend Script

  1. Launch GoLive.

  2. Select the Edit > Preferences command.  The Preferences dialog will be displayed.

  3. In the left pane of the Preferences dialog, select the Modules node.

  4. In the right pane of the Preferences dialog, make certain that the Extend Scripts Openwave SDK and WML are checked.

  5. Press OK to close the Preferences dialog.

  6. When the Openwave SDK Extend Script is loaded, several new menu items will be added to Adobe GoLive:

  7. Select the Openwave Tools > Openwave SDK Options command.  The Openwave SDK Options dialog will be displayed.

  8. In the Openwave SDK Path field, enter the path to the Openwave SDK executable.  If you installed the SDK in the default location, this path is:

    c:\Program Files\Openwave\SDK 6.2.2\program\http\OSDK62http.exe

  9. In the Default Command-line Arguments field, enter any special arguments you want passed to the Openwave SDK when it is launched, such as -lang ja-jp.  For a complete list and description of simulator command-line arguments, see the Openwave SDK release notes.

Do not include the -reload argument in this field; it is automatically added at runtime when you choose the Openwave Tools > View Current File in Openwave SDK command.

  10. Click OK to close the dialog and save your settings.

Viewing Content with the Openwave Simulator

To view your XHTML or WML files with the Openwave simulator in GoLive, simply open a file and choose the Openwave Tools > View Current File in Openwave SDK command.  It is not necessary to save your file first.

As you make changes to your project, you can reload the content in the SDK 6.2.2 by again selecting the Openwave Tools > View Current File in Openwave SDK command, or by selecting the Tools > Reload command from within the SDK 6.2.2.  You can also navigate using the Openwave simulator itself, selecting links or entering URLs in the simulator's "Go" field.

Note that the Openwave simulator uses file:// URL's to view content from GoLive.  Please refer to the Openwave SDK Release Notes for information on limitations associated with the use of file:// URLs.

Notes

The command-line arguments specified in the Openwave SDK Options dialog are only applied when the Openwave SDK is launched.  If you change these arguments while the SDK is running, they will have no effect until the SDK is closed and restarted.
