Simulating different phone and network types

By default, the UP.Simulator displays a generic phone interface. All of the UP.Simulator illustrations in this manual use this generic phone configuration.

To simulate a particular phone model:

  1. Select File>Open Configuration.
  2. Select the desired phone configuration (see below) and click Open.

    Configuration file  Phone model
    alcsm.pho

    Alcatel One Touch Pocket phone

    generic.pho

    Generic phone (default)

    mits_cdpd.ph o

    Mitsubishi CDPD phone

    samsung.pho

    Samsung Duette phone

The UP.Simulator interface changes based on the selected file. Keep in mind that the navigation key layout for each phone may be slightly different (see Appendix A for the key mappings of each model). In addition, note that the UP.Simulator resets the cache whenever you switch configurations.

Simulating different network types

By default, the UP.Simulator emulates the latency in a typical packet network. You can, however, also configure it to emulate the latency in a circuit-switched network.

To simulate a particular network type:

  1. Select Settings>Network Settings.
  2. Select the desired network type (see below) and click OK.

    Network type  Characteristics

    Packet (default)

    Baud rate: 14400

    Circuit-Switched

    Baud rate: 14400
    Circuit Idle time: 10000 msecs
    Circuit setup time: 4000 msecs

    LAN

No delay--use this setting to test the functionality of your service without simulating any network latency. This setting takes advantage of the speed of your LAN connection and yields the fastest response time.

IMPORTANT     You must use the UP.Simulator in UP.Link mode to simulate different network types. For instructions on how to do this, see UP.Link mode.
