Other UP.Link provisioning features
Registering on an UP.Link server describes how to use the UP.Link provisioning Web pages to add subscribers (provision UP.Phones and UP.Simulators). You can use these pages for a number of other tasks, such as:
- Finding and modifying subscriber profiles
- Checking the status of faxes sent on behalf of subscribers
- Checking the status of notifications sent to subscribers
- Synchronizing a subscriber record to match a dynamically assigned IP address (this is useful if you are using an ISP to connect to the Internet)
The following sections describe these tasks in more detail.
Finding and modifying a subscriber profile
To find and modify a subscriber profile:
-
On the UP.Link Provisioning pages, click Find Subscriber.
For information on accessing the UP.Link Provisioning pages, see Registering on an UP.Link server.
The Find Subscriber form appears.
FIGURE 1-12.
Find Subscriber Form
-
Enter your search criteria and click Submit.
Because the Device ID uniquely identifies each subscriber, you do not need to enter any other criteria if you know the Device ID for a particular subscriber. If you have not provisioned many subscribers, you can click Submit without entering any search criteria to display a list of all subscribers. The UP.Link database returns your search results according to the following rules:
|
Search Criterion
|
Result
|
Character field (for example, Name)
|
The search returns all values that match the pattern you enter. For example, if you enter John in the Name field, the database returns a list of subscribers whose name contains the pattern john--for example, John Smith, Don Johnson, and Barbara Littlejohn. Note that case is ignored.
|
Numeric field (for example, Device ID)
|
The search returns only those rows where the value stored in the database matches the value you enter exactly.
|
Date field (for example, Create Date)
|
The search returns rows based on the option you select from the When dropdown menu:
<=: profiles created on or before the specified date
==: profiles created on the specified date
!=: profiles created on any date but the specified date
>=: profiles created on or after the specified date
|
If multiple subscribers match your search criteria, the system displays a list of those subscribers--you can then select the subscriber you want. Once you have identified a single subscriber, the Subscriber Profile Form appears (see Figure 1-7).
-
Click Modify.
The Subscriber Edit Form appears.
-
Modify the profile values as desired and click Submit.
The system then redisplays the Subscriber Profile with the updated information.
Deleting a subscriber
To delete a subscriber:
-
Find the subscriber you want to delete (see previous section).
-
Click the Delete button in the Subscriber Profile Form.
The Subscriber Delete Confirmation prompts you to confirm the deletion.
-
Choose yes and click Submit.
Checking notification status
To check the status of pending or recently delivered notifications:
-
Find the profile of the subscriber to whom you sent the notification.
For information on finding a subscriber profile, see Finding and modifying a subscriber profile.
-
Click the Notifications link at the bottom of the Subscriber Profile.
The Subscriber Notifications page appears (see Figure 1-13). The following table describes the fields on this page:
|
Field
|
Description
|
Type
|
The notification delivery mechanism, either push or pull.
For a description of push and pull notifications, see Chapter 5 of the UP.SDK Developer's Guide.
|
Service ID
|
The IP address of the service originating the notification.
|
Date of Post
|
The date when the notification was posted to the UP.Link server.
|
Time of Post
|
The time when the notification was posted to the UP.Link server.
|
Date of Expiry
|
The date when the notification will expire.
|
Time of Expiry
|
The time when the notification will expire.
|
Status
|
The status of the notification. One of the following values:
delivered: downloaded to the UP.Phone
pending: not yet downloaded to the UP.Phone
undeliverable: Messenger unable to deliver
expired: Messenger unable to deliver before expiration

Checking fax status
To check the status of pending or recently delivered faxes:
-
Find the profile of the subscriber that sent the fax.
For information on finding a subscriber profile, see Finding and modifying a subscriber profile.
-
Click the Faxes link at the bottom of the Subscriber Profile.
The Registered Faxes page appears (Figure 1-14). The following table describes the possible status for a fax.
|
Status
|
Meaning
|
Pending
|
The fax sending service has not yet confirmed receipt of the fax.
|
Queued
|
The fax sending service has received the fax and is trying to send it.
The fax service will make several attempts to send the fax before changing the status to Failed.
|
Sent
|
The fax was successful.
|
Failed
|
The fax was not successful.
Reasons for failure vary from an incorrect or invalid fax number to problems with the receiving fax machine.

Using dynamic IP addresses
To communicate with the UP.Simulator on your computer, the UP.Link server must know your computer's IP address. You provide the IP address when you register the UP.Simulator; the UP.Link server maintains it in the subscriber profile. If your computer is on a corporate or fixed network, its IP address remains the same. However, if you use an ISP to connect to the Internet, the ISP probably assigns a new address each time you connect.
If you are using an ISP, you must synchronize the IP address stored in the subscriber profile with the IP address that the ISP assigns to your computer. The devgate2 server provides a utility that automates this process. This utility, called "Sync Phone," resets the IP address in the first subscriber profile to match the current IP address of your computer.
To synchronize your computer's IP address, do the following each time you connect to the Internet:
-
On the UP.Link Provisioning pages, click Developer Utilities.
The Provisioning Utilities page appears (Figure 1-15)
For information on accessing the UP.Link Provisioning pages, see Registering on an UP.Link server.
-
Click the "Sync Phone" link to execute the utility.
A page appears confirming that the IP address in the subscriber record has been changed.
