Preface

This manual provides instructions for using the Phone.com Software Development Kit (UP.SDK) to build WML services for the UP.Link^TM platform. These instructions assume familiarity with the Common Gateway Interface (CGI) protocol, HyperText Markup Language (HTML), and programming languages, such as C and Perl.

IMPORTANT The UP.SDK Version 3.2 for WML contains documentation and sample code to develop services using WML 1.1. In order to access these services, phones must have UP.Browser Version 3.1 or higher software. If you want users with UP.Browser Version 3.0 phones to access your service, you should develop a version of your service using HDML 3.0, which is fully supported on both UP.Browser Version 3.0 and UP.Browser Version 3.1 devices. To develop in HDML 3.0, download the UP.SDK Version 3.2 for HDML and refer to the associated documentation and sample code.

If you want users with UP.Browser Version 2.x phones to access your service, you must develop a version of your service using HDML 2.0. In this case, download the UP.SDK Version 2.0 and refer to the associated documentation and sample code.

Check the Phone.com Developer Web site for a list of publicly available UP.Phones and their respective browser versions. For unannounced products and services, contact your carrier to determine the UP.Browser version(s) you need to support.
